NEW KINGSTON (Jamajka/USA)

Trzech braci i ojciec, wybitny jamajski basista, to podstawa składu wyjątkowego zespołu z USA, który śmiało pokazuje jak piękna mieszanka wynika z połączenia jamajskich korzeni z R&B i hip-hopem – miejskim brzmieniem Brooklynu, gdzie przyszło im żyć. Zgodnie z ich nazwą, to fuzja tych dwóch światów.

New Kingston został powołany do życia w 2006 przez Courtney’a Pantona Seniora w Nowym Jorku. W tej muzycznej rodzinie ważny głos, również dosłownie, należy do braci Stephena, Courtney’a Juniora i Tahira, którzy grają na instrumentach i śpiewają.
Po dwóch samodzielnie wydanych i wyprodukowanych albumach, w 2015 roku New Kingston wydali swój trzeci krążek “Kingston City”. Tym razem wydawcą była jedna z największych niezależnych wytwórni reggae na świecie – Easy Star Records. Płyta wylądowała na pierwszej pozycji sprzedaży płyt reggae wg. Billboard. Wśród gości usłyszysz tam Tribal Seeds, hawajskiego wokalistę Kimie Minera oraz legendy jamajskiego reggae: Sister Carol, The Wailing Souls czy Sugar Minotta. W efekcie koncertowali i grali trasy z takimi gwiazdami jak Collie Buddz, Soja, Matisyahu, Rebelution, Easy Star All-Stars czy Beres Hammond.
„New Kingston na dobre zadomowili się na światowej scenie reggae, na której są jednym z najbardziej pracowitych zespołów” – twierdzi szef Easy Star, Eric Smith. „Ich koncerty są bardzo dynamiczne i ekscytujące, co potwierdzi każdy artysta pracujący z nimi” – dodaje.
Ta ciężka praca zaprowadziła ich z małej piwnicy na Brooklynie, gdzie zaczynali, na główne festiwale reggae na świecie, jak California Roots Festival, Monterey Bay Reggae Festival, Reggae On The River, czy europejskie Summerjam i Uppsala Reggae Festival. W ub. roku wydali „Kingston Fyah” EP, który stał się przyczynkiem do kolejnej trasy po USA, tym razem już w charakterze gwiazdy.
W ub. roku wystąpili jako headliner Reggae na Piaskach, a teraz powracają do Polski by znów pokazać, co pięknego może wyniknąć z mieszanki wyjątkowego talentu, rodzinnej chemii oraz połączenia dwóch kultur.

Three brothers and their father, an extraordinary Jamaican bassist, are the foundation of this band. They clearly show how great is a combination of their Jamaican roots with R&B and hip-hop, urban sounds of Brooklyn.

Schooled by their father, who also tours as their bass player, the brothers fused reggae with other genres on their first release ‘In the Streets’ in 2010. After releasing their second album ‘Kingston University’ and touring as the supporting act for Collie Buddz, the band signed to Easy Star Records. Their third album ‘Kingston City’ (2015) peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart and featured guest like Tribal Seeds, Kimie Miner as well as real Jamaican legends: Sister Carol, The Wailing Souls and Sugar Minott.
New Kingston is best described as an urban conscious reggae family. Since 2006, the band of brothers – Tahir (keys), Courtney Jr. (drums) and Stephen (guitar) have harnessed their dual identities, in order to craft an entirely unique sound that pays homage to their roots. They dubbed themselves New Kingston, to appropriately reflect the combination of their Jamaican heritage and their present lives in progressive New York City. It is the fusion of these two identities, both their cultural roots and their current home, that guides their musical and stylistic direction.
The band has grown considerably since their beginnings in the Brooklyn basement. Now you can see them in lineups of the world’s leading reggae events like California Roots Festival, Monterey Bay Reggae Festival, Reggae On The River or European Summerjam and Uppsala Reggae Festival. In 2016 they released „Kingston Fyah” EP and hit the road with a national tour of the same name.
Last year they performed first time in Poland, headlining Reggae na Piaskach Festival. Now it’s time to come back and show Ostróda the magic effects of unusual talent, family chemistry and two cultures connection.
